Urban Forestry

What is Urban Forestry?

Urban Forestry, the care and maintenance of trees in urban settings, is one of the most diverse and challenging fields of employment in natural resources.  Most every municipality delegates responsibility for care of trees along streets and in city parks to an urban forestry professional.  Smaller towns and cities may contract for this service, others may employ a "City Forester" and city tree-care crews.  Non-profit organizations such as the Arbor Day Foundation exist to promote urban tree planting and care.  Many private-sector opportunities abound among urban forestry companies, providers of tree service to smaller municipalities and private landowners.  A unique position within Urban Forestry is that of tree-climber, one of the most specialized and best paid professions in Forestry.  For further information about Urban Forestry, consult the International Society of Arboriculture.
